Sleek Sparkle 2 Palette

Sleek is one of those brands I always like the sound of but never seem to get my mitts on.  I have a few items which includes the Original and Storm palettes plus the contour/highlighting kit, which is great and totally worth it by the way.

I'll be truthful when I say I wouldn't of bought the Sparkle 2 myself.  Not because I don't like it but I have so many shadows I'm trying to use up at the moment.  Plus the other palettes are not usually ones I reach for unless i'm doing a tutorial.

I actually received this sparkly gem in my BbloggerXmas Party goody bag. It was a real treat and completely unexpected.  It was nice to receive an item which I didn't already own.

At a mere £7.99 you get 12 highly pigmented shadows with the added touch of sparkly glitter blended in them.  I love the range of shades in the palette. Plenty to create a smokey eye with a twist. You could create some lovely bright looks with the golds and turquoise.

As for the shadows themselves they are a good quality and the pigmentation is excellent for a drug store product.  Some of the shades of more sparkly than others, but they all look great.

Sleek is certainly a brand I want to discover more of.  You can buy a lot of fun goodies for a fraction of the cost compared to your high end brands (naming no names).  I cannot wait to play and create some looks as I think this is fab.

Sephora / French Haul

Last weekend my hubby and I... plus my parents took a day trip to France. Nothing fancy, we usually go to grab bargains in the supermarkets as they are usually cheaper.  Plus with the festive season approaching the French usually have some cool Christmas items to be had.

This trip I demanded we stop off at Citie of Europe and visit the shopping centre there. Main reason...I know there’s a Sephora there!!! :- )

I love Sephora... for me it's a die and go to heaven place - I love it.  Sephora's in Europe differ to the US slightly as they don't sell all the brands which is unfortunate   More annoying they have yet to open a Sephora in the UK.  I wish they would open one.

So in the shopping I put a nail polish by Sephora called My Favourite Jeans which is dark indigo blue (just like your favourite jeans).  I can't wait to try this.  I also picked up these cute fragrances by Sephora as well: Coconut, Cotton Flower, Peony and Vanilla.  Great for throwing your hand bag at €4.50 I thought they were a bargain.

My most expensive purchase at €14.50 was a Make Up For Ever Aqua Eyes Liner in 2L which is a dark brown with a slight shimmer. I've heard some good things about these liners so I 'm going to put this to the test.

I also got some non-Sephora beauty buys....

Randomly I picked up boring hair slides, they only cost about €3.50 and i needed some so I thought why not.  Random item over lets get on to the cool stuff.

In the shopping basket I put this Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo in Timeless Black.  Why do we not have this colour in the UK?!?! It seems France and the US get all the fun.  They had a few shades which we do not have on the shelves in the UK which is sad but I picked the black shade which I thought would be fabulous for a smokey eye base.

I also got a mini Bioderma (Mummy Jolly bought me this... thanks Mum).  I have always been intrigued to see if all the hype around this product was actually worth it.  So watch this space for my thoughts.  This little bottle cost €4.20.  I didn't want to spend anymore on a larger bottle just in case it was not love at first sight.

L'Oréal Colour Riche Quad ~ Nude Lingerie

Usually when you pick up a eye shadow set there is one shade that doesn't tickle your fancy.  Well not with the L'Oréal Colour Riche Quad in Nude Lingerie.  This is any girls dream quad especially if you're a fan of neutrals.  You will get your taupe's and brown's fix here... I promise!

What I have found really cute is the layout of the shadows inside.  Instead of the standard square or circle design L'Oreal have opted for abstract design.  But in fact the layout of the shadows inside is a key to help you know where to apply the shadows... it's kind of shaped like an eye lid...see!?  L'Oreal have even been kind enough to give us a picture to show where the colours go!  Thank you L'Oreal.

Packed with four beautiful shadows; a highlight, two base shades and a crease/liner colour this is a perfect on the go palette.  The palette comes with a applicator but mine looks like it was chewed by a dog.

The shadows themselves are frosty/shimmer and are pigmented nicely, they really catch the light and reflex wonderfully.  Very buildable, so they can worn sheer or layered for a more intense look.

This new collection has seven different palettes (including Nude Lingerie).  You can see them here.  They retail for the around £7.

Inglot Freedom System

Inglot is one those brands I have always wanted to get my mitts on but hadn't had the chance to. Famous for being able to customise your own palettes, I had always want one.  Now I do!

For those of you who may not know, the freedom system is where you can make any palette size of your choice.  Separately sold, the empty palettes which come in sizes where you can either place 2, 3, 4, 5, 10, 20 or 40 shadows.  The shadows are held in with a strong magnet, so there is no risk of them falling out.  They also have a lid which is held in place by magnets.  It's a very cool unique design.

For my first ever Inglot buy I opted for the 5 pan.  What is amazing about their shadows is there are so many to select from.  The amount they sell put MAC to shame!  The only thing I do dislike is none of the shadows have fancy names, they have numbers and different finishes written down like matte, double sparkle.  I'm a person who likes cute names.

So from left to right I have the following:

Normal and flash lighting

 405 Pearl

 461 Double Sparkle 

 502 Double Sparkle

 387 Matte

I have swatches in normal and flash lighting so you can see any shimmer amongst the shadow.

What is great with all of these is the pigmentation and consistency... they have the X-Factor for me.  They feel and look high quality.  In comparison to lets say MAC, they are also cheaper and are just as good when it comes to colour pay off.  Plus as I said earlier you also have more colours to chose from.  One small downside is where you can buy them... the only store in the UK currently is in Westfield Shepherds Bush which is a trek.  But they do have the option to mail order them if you wish.

So there you have it... my first palette.  All shadows are purchased individually at £9 and the palette is £7.  Inglot state that their shadows are not tested on animals either... which is excellent news!!!

Revlon Colourstay Shadow Stick in Smolder

If you're a follower of my blog you'd know not that long ago I picked up my first Revlon Colourstay Smokey Shadow Stick in Torch (review here).  I love Torch, they are the perfect colours for a lazy everyday makeup look and are seriously easy to use.  I knew I'd buy others from the collection... and I have.... Smolder.

As the name suggests this is a dark shadow duo.  But instead of being your usual black and grey this is slightly different. A blue-grey tone base colour and a dark forest green for shading and definition. 

The shadows, like the Torch i reviewed previously last a good amount of time.  There is no creasing or movement of the shadow... they stay put for hours.  

They are smooth and are easy to apply/blend and both these colours work very well together.  They take on a metallic look on the skin... which catch the light very well as you can see on my swatches below.

Perfect for a smokey eye look which will take no effort at all I'm really looking forward to creating some looks with this.  Who knows I may even film a tutorial! Watch this space.

Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo ~ Pink Gold

I'm a very big fan of the Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoos.  A cheaper alternative to MAC Paint Pots, Stila Smudge Pots and Make Up For Ever Aqua Creams, these have been a big hit so it seems with everyone in the beauty world.

So when it was announced Maybelline were introducing another to their UK collection... I said a little whoop whoop to myself with joy.  Compared to the US collection, the UK Tattoo collection is very limited.  We have less than half the colours you ladies were given! Boo hiss!

The beautiful Pink Gold is a soft pearly pink shade with perhaps a soft hint of a gold, although I cannot see it personally.  Like the other 24hr Tattoos this is very pigmentated with an excellent staying power.  It does not crease and can be used without an eye base.  Also if used lightly it could almost be used for a highlight on the cheeks.

It is nice that Maybelline has launched a light colour to their collection as a lot of the colours they have now are dark ones.  I hope Maybelline bring more to the UK collection like they have for the US.  I think the Tattoo shadows are a hit and I'd rather spend my money buying these compared to Stila, MAC and Make Up For Ever.

Haul time!

Now you all know I like a good old haul.  I'm always doing it but sometimes I just don't tell you... LOL!  However today I thought I'd share what I got recently in Boots.  I'll do reviews on all of them no doubt!

Some of the items I got are new on the market but I know the Revlon Just Bitten Lip Stains have been lurking around for a while.  So what did I pick up....?

Rimmel's Scandal Eyes Waterproof Eye Pencil in Black.  I have taupe, nude, bronze and purple (you can see swatches here)... but I really wanted the black also.  And I finally found one.. yay!

Maybelline 24 Hour Colour Tattoo Eyeshadow in Pink Gold.  I adore my other Tattoo eyeshadows, so when I saw they were launching this colour I knew I have to run out and pick this up.  See my swatches of the other tattoo shadows here.

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Rendezvous.  Kind of a lets just try you out purchase.  I swatched it on my hand in store and it looked lovely, so I thought what the heck.

L'Oreal Eyeshadow Quad in Nude Lingerie.  I didn't need this but it caught my eye and the colours looked beautiful when I swatched them.  Another what the heck moment and I'm glad I did.

September Favourites

Yes I'm slightly late but hey, you don't mind do you?  I'm always fashionably late.  Looking back on my blog I feel like it's been forever since I did a favourites post.  I've been all about the empties - which I do have a post on route for you.  Go me!

Practically every item I mention here does have an individual review on, with the exception of some.

Clarins Ever Matte ~ I had to mention this really, it was a must.  Ever since I bought this I have felt the urge to ditch all my other foundations.  I think this is the best foundation I have ever come across.  It has become my new and only bestest friend.  I have a full review here.

TopShop Nail Polish in Pool Party ~ A fun, bright colour I don't think this is a just for summer colour.  For a £5 polish the application is amazing.  You could easily get away with my coat.  And the lasting power is exceptional too!  Swatches here!

Stila Eyeshadow in Sun ~  I've had this lurking around for sometime but never tend to reach for it.  But I felt like I needed an eye catching shadow and opposed to usually reaching for Kitten I opted for this instead. Very neutral ...it's perfect for an all over the lid look, especially on a lazy makeup day.

MeMeMe Boho Balm in Pink Rouge ~ I took to Jersey with me and used it everyday.  As you can see from the below picture it is getting a lot of attention as it's a bit yucky looking.  I love the pink for the cheeks.  It gives a beautiful flush almost like a natural glow.  I have used the red/coral on my lips too which looks stunning.  See my review and swatches here.

TopShop Cheek Duo Dessert Sun ~  Soon to become a favourite blush this is a subtle colour.  It looks big and bold in the pan but trust me when I say it's much more delicate than it looks. If you want to see swatches see my review here.

I have a few more favourites which I like to call tools...

Caudalie Beauty Elixir ~ A cult favourite and I can see why.  This just makes me feel good when I spritz it on my face.  It refreshes and makes pores smaller and it's a small bottle which you can take anywhere!

Real Technique Buffing and Contour Brushes ~ Part of the Core set I don't think I've really put these down lately.  The buffing brush is perfect for applying my Clarins, it buffs it in perfectly with no streaking.  For flawless foundation application I'd buy the set just for the buffing brush.  Now the contour brush is what I've been using to apply my MeMeMe cream blush,  it's the perfect size and so soft it makes applying cream blush effortless.  I totally recommend the Core Set.

Shu Uemera Eye Lash Curlers ~  I never used to be that fussed about curling my lashes but now I own the cult favourite eye lash curler I just cannot stop myself from curling every morning.  My curl does fall out slightly but that's probably my lashes or maybe my mascara not helping.... I'm not sure.  I think I need some eye lash curling tips.

Revlon Colourstay Shadow Stick

I can be quite lazy when I comes to eye makeup. Sometimes I love experimenting and other times I love just a simple look which is quick and easy to achieve. Recently I picked up the new-ish Revlon Colourstay Smokey Shadow Stick in the colour Torch.

Torch is a duo shadow stick, one end a light base colour and the other a darker liner or crease shade.  Torch is a light pinky fresh toned colour whilst the other shade is a dark chocolate brown colour. The tips of each colour are designed slightly different because of their uses.  The light end is slightly rounded, so it is easier to apply to the lid as a base.  The darker side has a more pointer finish so it can easily apply the product to the lash lines and the crease. 

When it comes to the shadows themselves, I find the brown side a little easier to work with as the light side can be a little dry. Every time I have used the light side I have had to warm it up on the back of my hand before attempting to use on the eye lid as I don't want to drag it across my delicate skin.  As the lighter colour is so dry it has already fallen out of the container a few times which isn't particularly good.

So would I repurchase this after it's finished?  Yes I probably would as I like the neutral colour.  I bought a darker one recently so I can try to create a darker smokey eye (review to come).  I can see this being great in warmer climates, as it lasts an exceptionally long time.  I can also wear it at the gym and it doesn't move.

My Top 10 MAC Eyeshadow - Swatches!

Back in April I blessed you all with my Top 10 MAC eyeshadows.  At the time I never did swatches, but after a request to do so -  I have dug out the famous 10 and taken their mug shots for you all to see.

I will say before I start this post properly, this is basically a picture post.  Not very many words as I wrote about the shadows on the initial post here.

All the single pictures are taken with a flash.  But the below group shot is taken in natural and flash photgraphy.  Any-ho here is a group picture to start with.

Catchy title huh?  So I have three shadows to compare.  I was playing about with them individually the other day then started to think they all looked quite similar.  So I thought I'd share my findings with my lovely followers.

So what had I been playing with you ask?  I was playing with three much loved shadows from Stila, Urban Decay and MAC.  The following picture shows all three together.  The top picture is natural lighting whilst the bottom is with the flash.

What all three shadows have in common is the colour and finish.  It's almost like they are sisters, obviously part of the same family but have their own unique differences.  In the pans they look very much alike, especially Sin and Naked Lunch.  Kitten is slightly more golden, whereas the bottom two are much more pinky.  When it comes to the swatches you can see their subtle differences.  They are all very shimmery, but the colours vary slightly.  But they still look pretty much the same, the classic champagne-peachy/pink.

So a little chit chat about the individual shadow themselves:

Sin
Urban Decays Sin is a firm favourite of mine, I've loved it since day one.  A shimmery shadow that glides on brilliantly.  However frustratingly Urban Decay in the UK I think is a difficult brand to get hold of.  You cannot buy it online from the Urban Decay website, you can only buy from House of Fraser or Debenhams.  Urban Decay used to be available also in Boots but they have pulled out of trading with them which seems a shame.  It's a bit of a step backwards I think.  The shadow costs £14.00, which is the more expensive shadow out of the three.  I would recommend this shadow regardless of the price though.

Naked Lunch
The MAC shadow is probably one of the shadows everyone owns.  But out of the three of them, I'd say Naked Lunch isn't the best of the bunch.  Don't get me wrong it is a good shadow but just is not the greatest.  It isn't as pigmented as the others and is a little more difficult to get a good colour pay off.  It is one of those shadows you need to layer to get the desired look.  However it is still part of my Top 10 MAC shadows which you can see here, so it cannot be all bad.  The shadow cost varies depending if you buy a pot (£12.00) or a pro-pan (£10.00).

Kitten
When ever I think of the Stila brand you automatically think Kitten.  It's their best seller, it's basically the Touche Eclat to YSL comparison. Out of all the shadows, Kitten is probably my favourite.  To get a great pay off with this you need minimum effort, this all over the lid just looks amazing.  It's the perfect summer shadow - it just gives you this wide a wake summer eye.  The shadow is soft and creamy and makes applying eyeshadow easy!  Stila has recently returned to our shores after a little time away and is available online and in Boots.  You can pick this shadow up for £12.00 but the best thing is the pan is slightly larger than the MAC and Urban Decay - so technically you're getting more for your money!


So my verdict - buy the Stila!  The others are good but you're getting more for your pennies!!  Do you have any of these shadows?  If so which is your favourite?  If you don't have any of these, which one do you like and would buy?

Gold by Giles ~ Envy Review

Carrying on the theme of inexpensive makeup whilst out the other week I picked up this Gold by Giles eyeshadow quad called Envy.  This also featured in my £20 Makeup TAG which is on my YouTube channel here.

This is my first purchase of anything from the Giles Deacon Makeup which is only available in New Look stores.  His collection is actually quite a reasonable size.  He has mascaras, highlighters, bronzers, brushes, nail polishes, nail foils, lipsticks . . . you name it.  For a 'small' collection in a high street store, it is pretty vast.

Sometimes I usually have the misconception that collections like these are usually a bit rubbish.  Cheap packaging, poor products inside but how wrong am I?  Everything I looked at in New Look by Giles was actually a really nice quality.  This eyeshadow quad is a fine example.

For £3.99 you get four highly pigmented shades.  I opted for the greens, but they had a neutral, grey and purple palette to chose from also.  The shadows sadly don't have individual names but when swatching them they are very soft and you hardly need to dip your finger/brush in to them to get a good colour pay off.


They glide on to the skin so smoothly and the end result is a velvet carpet of colour.  Pretty amazing for a high street quad.  I'd normally associated an excellent eyeshadow with the likes of MAC for example but these are surprisingly good for just £3.99.

I think the quad has all the qualities to transform a plain boring eye into a deep smokey green eye look.  I'm eager to go back to New Look to pickup the other palettes.  For such a cheap price it would be silly not to.

Topshop Makeup Haul

Most people on Friday nights are out on the town after work.  Me on the other hand headed to the gym for a hard core workout.  However not before nipping in to my local Topshop for a look at their makeup collection. Here's what I treated myself to.

There were so many things I could of bought, but I held back.  Don't you just love the packaging?

Eye Crayon in shades Sun Shower and Bramble

There were about 5 different shades in the Topshop store at the New Change, Cheapside to choose from.  I opted for the bronzed-golden look and chose Sun Shower and Bramble.  When I did the obligatory swatch in store I was completed shocked when it came to the colour pay off with these two.  They stuck like glue and didn't move, I knew I had to get these home at once.

At £7.50 each and pretty much resembling a MAC Shadestick, apart from the more expensive price tag.  Topshops cheaper alternatives are much more attractive. these long lasting metallic crayons are creamy and apply like a dream.  But the truly amazing thing is they last a long time and don't budge.  After the swatching on the hand I literally had to scrub my hand to remove it.

  Rumour Has It . . . Sun Shower . . . Bramble

When I think of this lipstick I just want to start singing Adele . . . a dusty rose brown wouldn't be my typical choice of colour.  But this is actually really nice, kind of a slightly darker version of my own lip colour.  Very natural looking.

When you apply to the lips it's feels silky and has quite a creamy velvet finish.  It just looks eye catching instead of a boring dusky rose brown, it catches the light.  What I love the most is it lasts for ages.  This is my very first lipstick from Topshop and I'm super impressed with it's performance and look!!

Nail Polish in Geography Teacher

There's something strangely nice about this £5 camel brown polish.  Two coats and no top coat and the glossiness is just perfect.  Oddly though, I think the name suits this well in a weird way.  My collection of Topshop polishes is slowly building, they have a excellent colour selection . . . what to buy next?

Shopping my stash #part2

So I'm at it again, digging out my unloved items and trying to rediscover them.  This time I'm rediscovering my NARS eyeshadow duo in Egae. 

At £24.00 is definitely worth rediscovering.  The reason I never quite took to using this was I never actually wanted it in the first place.  I'd actually asked for another duo called Hula Hula, but the sales lady put this in my bag instead, it wasn't until I got all the way home I found out the mistake.  I kind of swatched it and played with it a few times and got bored soon after. 

So after dusting it off I am actually quite liking the minty-sage shimmer with its soft lilac-silver companion.  I find the finish very similar to a MAC lustre eyeshadow because they are a little on the chunky side.  But the colour pay off is very nice.  They are sheer and very buildable, so I'm pretty glad I hung on to it.

My Maybelline 24hr Colour Tattoo's

When I went to the states back in February I purchased a few of the much talked about 24hr Colour Tattoo Eye Shadows by Maybelline. They have been a huge success in the US and everyone has been loving them on their blog reviews and YouTube videos. It’s just annoying how the UK gets them afterwards. I wish we were first for once!

These were a little hard to get my mitts on, they are so popular they were pretty much sold out where ever I went.  I managed to get my hands on four of them, two in one Walgreens and two in another. . . .my first impression of these is wow-zer!!!!

Now I know you’ve probably seen pictures before but what’s one more review, picture, swatch...????

1... Tough as Taupe, 2... Bad to the Bronze, 3... Audacious Asphalt & 4... Bold Gold

I am a MAC Paint Pot lover through and through and i think they are fantastic eye shadow primers. Whenever they have limited editions i always want to get in there and give them a good swatch! So the idea of Maybelline selling a much cheaper alternative is very appealing indeed.

In the US there are ten in the collection but the in the UK it has been down sized to seven.  Also strangely they been given different names as well.  Weird! The colour range is great they’d be a colour for you no matter your skin colour.  Every body will be able to find something they like.

The colours I got:

Audacious Asphalt (UK name ...Immortal Charcoal)

If you don't have the creaseless cream eyeshadow/ liner in Skinny Jeans by Benefit  not to worry.  Get this instead,  A) because it's cheaper  (Benefit is £14.99 and Audacious Asphalt is £4.99) and B) it's better! Yes really. I always find Benefit creaselesses crease on me or you need a base.  However you can apply the Maybelline 24hr shadows direct onto the skin.  This is excellent for a smokey eye.

Bad to the Bronze (UK Name... On Bronze)

A perfect bronze for the everyday look.  I have been wearing this as part of my daily routine recently.  Reminds me of MAC's Constructive Paint Pot but they are just slightly different tones however.  This looks great on it's own and gives the perfect bronzed look.  I love it!

Tough as Taupe (UK Name... Permanent Taupe)

A great matte looking taupe which in certain lighting could look almost grey.  This is fabulous for an all over the eye look.  I've also used it on the lower lash line to smoke it out.  Can be used alone or paired with a darker crease colour.

Bold Gold (UK Name... Eternal Gold)

A light golden shimmer.  I'm saving this for the summer time as I think it'd best with a tan.  This is still good throughout the year how ever, I just used Bad to the Bronze in the crease to make it a little darker.  Could be a cool inner corner highlight too!

My finally impressions are that i am in love with these. I’m always going to love a MAC Paint Pot but the Maybelline Tattoos have a fantastic longevity. I went to bed with swatches on my hand i woke up with them still intact.  Yes I normal do wash but it was a test for the blog.  There is a good range of colours to choose from Superdrug and Boots.  At £4.99 a pop, these are definitely something you need to check out.  I think they actually have a better colour range than MAC or Benefit.  Yes I did say that :-D
